ABOUT THE 2005 fiscal SESSION

In odd-numbered years the legislature holds "fiscal only sessions," which means that only bills dealing with tax or spending issues can be introduced. However, as a result of a constitutional amendment approved by the voters, in fiscal sessions each legislator may also file up to five general content bills, as well as an unlimited number of local bills dealing with only one civil parish.

Odd-numbered year sessions are also shorter than the even-numbered year general sessions. There can be only 45 business days within 60 calendar days.

The 2005 session convened at noon, Monday April 25, and adjourned at 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 23.
